New Global MDO Film Laminate Sets New Standard for the Home and
Personal Care Market

Avery Dennison's new high-performance film offers clarity, conformability, sustainability and productivity

LEIDEN, The Netherlands, Sep 29, 2011 (BUSINESS WIRE) --

Avery Dennison is introducing Global MDO - the latest addition to its innovative Machine Direction Oriented (MDO) film product line. The new film laminate bridges the gap between the high-performing MDO film range and PE85 film and features major productivity and sustainability improvements -- including a significant reduction in web breaks, up to 50 percent less ooze, an inherently printable film and double the amount of labels per roll -- balanced with the on-shelf label clarity demanded for Home and Personal Care applications.

Avery Dennison has spent over 15 years perfecting its MDO films designed specifically for the pressure-sensitive label market. Combined with PET23 liner, Global MDO offers the label market a differentiated film in the high-volume Home and Personal Care (HPC) market.

"In the past, you've always had to compromise," says Kent Stobbart, product marketing director for Avery Dennison Label and Packaging Materials Europe. "You could get a thinner label material, but it would lack rigidity. If you wanted conformability you gave up clarity. With Global MDO you don't have to make these compromises anymore."

Adds Renae Kulis, global segment leader, HPC, "This product is positioned to become the new de-facto film standard for the Home and Personal Care market."

Differentiating shelf appeal

The patented Global MDO film provides the base for beautiful clear film labels, delivering differentiating appeal 'on-shelf' and during consumer use. The clear, inherently printable face stock offers superb printability with on-press corona treatment and delivers stable print registration resulting in consistent high-quality print work.

Enhanced Productivity

Global MDO is ideal for label printers and brand owners looking for operational excellence. The exceptional strength of the label stock, which has a 50 Micron MDO film and 23 micron polyester liner, virtually eliminates line shut-downs due to web breaks. Avery Dennison's new S7000 water-resistant adhesive increases productivity with up to 50 percent lower ooze and best-in-class wet-out performance. The complete construction is approximately 50 percent thinner than today's standard product of PE85 film on glassine liner, so Global MDO delivers almost twice as many labels per roll, improving operational efficiency throughout the supply chain.

More Sustainable

Global MDO is an ideal solution for brand owners seeking enhanced sustainability. Independent Life Cycle Assessment research has proven that compared to today's standard product, Global MDO, driven by lower material usage, produces 40 percent less solid waste, consumes 37 percent less energy and reduces greenhouse gas emissions by 10 percent.

Availability

Global MDO is currently available in clear and white non-top coated options in North America and Europe and will be available in South America and Asia by the end of 2011. Contact your local Avery Dennison Label and Packaging Materials representative for more information or to arrange a meeting.
